Donelson is right next door to Hermitage and shares many of its highlights. It was named for Rachel Donelson, the wife of President Andrew Jackson. You will see many historical and family names being used in many ways throughout this area. Since President Andrew Jackson’s homestead is on this side of town you will notice the President’s nick name, “Old Hickory” and his homestead name “Hermitage” used a lot!
The airport is located adjacent to Donelson and it spans a large area and covers a lot of ground. There is great access to I-40 that takes you to downtown Nashville and also has great access to Briley Parkway, which is a great cut through to the south and north sides of town as well as to Opry Mills Mall. This location works very well for the person or family who needs quick access to both downtown and the airport.
If you work in downtown Nashville or just want to play downtown, you will only have a seven minute commute and if traffic is crazy there are several ways to by-pass I-40 and get into and out of downtown fairly easily. Because of Donelson’s great location, if the markets continue on there current trends, it is set up for nice appreciation over the coming years.
There are also homes in this area, that with a little fix-me-up could be outstanding starter and family homes. If you are into water sports, there is great access to both The Cumberland River and Percy Priest Lake. So if you are looking for a great neighborhood that is still closer to downtown but far enough away, Donelson is it!
